Slices of Cake
A woman’s hand reflected
in pastry case glass waves,
Vehicles pass in the street,
school girls step off curbs,
slices of cake lie on plastic trays.
We swim in light
like schools of fish in the sea,
pass through membranes of being
with the ease of breath being
absorbed as oxygen in the blood,
flow from darkness to darkness
unaware of the bravery it takes.
