The Not-So-Original Sin
Adam and Eve did not eat of the Tree of Knowledge,
For if they did, surely they would have come up
With better excuses than passing the buck.
It is evident to me that they did not eat enough,
But merely took a nibble.
An hors d’oeuvre, if you will.
Or--if you’ll forgive my frankness--
They had a sudden case of bulimia.
Perhaps, in the shock of being caught
Both red-handed and red-faced,
The best they could do was gape.
And the man pointed to the woman,
And the woman pointed to the snake,
And the snake, lacking arms, merely said, “Damn.”
It is from these poster-children of genius
That makes small wonder
That we would rather be related
