What Else Happened
(A companion piece to "A Love Story," published in the November 2004 issue of poeticdiversity)
When the bullet pierced the flesh of her neck, a vacuum was created in Lilly's throat that made her gasp with a force she had never before experienced.
She felt a pang in her forehead, just to the left of her third eye. She found it interesting that her life didn’t flash before her.It was all pain...then nothing.
Her body hit the mattress, bounced three times, and then was still.
(The bullet did not become lodged in the east wall of the bedroom.)
