"After a month in my home state, New Hampshire, I am making the difficult to return to inner city Philadelphia where I have spent nearly 25 years practicing pediatrics with urban poor families. During those years I have become a Quaker and the single mother of three remarkable mixed-race children (my former in-laws were from Shanghai.)"
"I write to survive and have met with surprising success in my attempts at publication, most recently winning The Cynic Prize from the local Cynic Press for my chapbook manuscript Rule of Thumb which deals largely with domestic violence and have just received the proofs for Late my second collection from The People's Press in Baltimore. I received a Pushcart nomination in 2000, my first year of submission, and again in 2002. I'm amazed by all this (and must thank my postal carrier for all the mail she carries to and from my box)."
