Weeping rows
of darkened black trees
against the charcoal grey skies
A calm night
in the bayou.
Lit by the full moon,
high above
the night is cool,
alive with sound.
Crickets and cicadas
sing into the dark
and the wisps of fog.
I am driving.
Driving as fast as I can
with the top down,
the highway stripes
speed faster and faster
beneath my tires.
With the full moon above
my head thrown back.
I am full of the wind.
I am full of the night.
I am full of this moment.
I am rich and alive,
but most of all,
I am free.
