Yellow light seeks escape across picket barricades
birds fly over and back undone by indecision
the toasty October global warming
feast for the eyes of feral cat colony
tongues denting velvet pawed lips,
bodies too lazy/fed to pounce
beneath a graying hammock of oak.
entrenched upon the lawn of crazy-old-man-neighbor-alone,
his tombstone paid for and freshly engraved, waiting,
leaving bottled water in the cemetery on hot days,
slipping Friskies at midnight out the front door.
