There Are No Trafic Lights in Arad |
Twenty five thousand people
They just go, or they don't
Here in the desert
it is lovely, so they say
We see signs that say Camel Crossing,
only without words
If I had nothing to write
I wouldn't be writing this
I've had Israeli Coffee
and now there is mud in my stomach
People I know want to
come and live in the desert
In the desert there are safe and unsafe
passages to Jerusalem
Tonight the Bedouins will
fill us with more mud
People are beaming
words into my pockets
I want to publish my epic
on a sand dune
I want to drive through Arad
without stopping
I want to rinse out the mud
with the Dead Sea
I want to swim with dolphins
and examine the coral through a safe window
see the pyramids my ancestors built
But thanks to the people who own the airplanes
none of this is possible
