Adrenaline Jockey |
“Always pushing, always pulling, always in the races” - The Cars “Misfit Kid” (c)1980
She’s the bouncing ball
jumping from syllable to syllable
she can’t complete a sentence, finish a thought
and you can’t get a word in
edge-wise.
By the time you get an hour into a day-long project
she’s changed it
like getting out of a business suit and getting into casual dinner attire,
or like a model who walks off the runway
and is due back on in 5 minutes
in a different outfit.
It’s no small wonder
when a person who races all day doesn’t seem to get anywhere
but here she is
the adrenaline jockey
and we’re the horses –
we know to jump the steeple when the reins yank
on our throats
we know
to speed up when the spur of an ulcer rips into our belly
we know the field
is not a race course with a defined beginning and an end
we are here to run
wherever the adrenaline jockey takes us.
