Breast Stroke |
Arms jut forward,
then pull out and back
propel the traveler
through billows of thick exhaust
dark, obscure atmospheres
poison to most
the city calls, neon screams
sounds outside car and apartment windows
occupants bred on fast times, hard luck
mistakes with a capital M
feet kick in cycles
pound pavement beneath
protected eyes watch for others
in a rush
avoid accidents on asphalt canals
keep the rhythm beating
until they reach the other side.
