all kinds of strange things
are going on around you
the bathroom window pried open
from the inside
screen cut and peeled like a flap of skin
a postmortem amputation or
gangrene of the heart
there’s blood and beer splattered on the wall
red water pools in the basin
rose-colored and fragrant
again and again the morning
begs to be eaten
while you assert there are some depressions
you just can’t get over
luckily, you’re game for a change
like the result of abnormal
chromosomal activity
you run around with flowers
in your hair
and prepare pot after pot of tomato soup
somewhere a pregnancy
is being terminated
and for a good reason
this room still smells like blood
and the cats are moody –
scratch drifts of association
into the litter
and hog the warm parts of the sofa
almost none of this should be touched
but you
touch
all of it
