On the 4th of July

I cannot party with monsters
I know they’ll come out
‘cause we made civility
like civics
an elective
there’s too much opportunity
for them to demon-strate
the hate they call patriotism
waving Chinese “American” flags
bought at Wal-Mart
scattering Constitutional amendments
like confetti
and singing “This Land”
but
not really meaning it
