What I Want to Do |
for Andre Levi
I asked myself what do I do when you know
a friend is dying?
This is all I can think of to do
What I want to do is turn the clock back.
What I want to do is to go back in time
What I want to do is to reach inside and
take out what is bad and make you well again
I can’t do that
All I can do is remember our times together.
The color of the sun beating down on us as
we walked up State Street, Santa Barbara at 7 P.M.
My shadow among yours, the cold air
of the Pacific wind blowing
against our faces driving out to Ojai, traveling a dark road
I want to remember how you smiled
I want to remember how you made me
laugh when you whispered in my ear something
comical
I want to remember that I love you
How I valued your friendship
I want to remember all that we gave to each
other so freely and graciously
This is all I what to do
